Once a Upon a Time on Radio

Once a Upon a Time on Radio

Recorded July 2, 2010

Two girls set out to re-tell great stories through alternative music for their first theme show of the mid-year break.

Hand of Sorrow – Within Temptation [The Heart of Everything]

‘”Thinking is not always…comforting. It is always good, but not always comforting.”

Based on the Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb, we started off our show with High Fantasy inspired Symph Metal.

Ariadne (The Dividing Sea) – Sleepthief [Labyrinthine Heart]

Of course, the only logical place to go after that was a mellow (not particularly well recieved) Greek Myth inpired ballad about Ariadne. In myth, Ariadne was abandoned by Theseus on the Island of Naxos after she helped him defeat the Minotaur and escape the Labyrinth. But, her luck dramatically improved when Dionysus found her, married her and pretty much made her a Goddess.

Juliet – Emilie Autumn [Enchant]

No prizes for guessing that this song is based on the tale of that of Juliet and her Romeo.  We wanted to do a half and hour, live reading of as much of the two hour play as we could cram into half an hour.

Blue Alice – Ayria [Hearts for Bullets]

Ayria brings some of her attitude and lends it to Alice in Wonderland.

Alone – Green Carnation [The Acoustic Verses]

And finally, we leave you with a poem, that is particularly pertinant for C+A+M. Alone is a musical reading of the poem by Edgar Allen Poe of the same name. This verse has always been my favourite:

From childhood’s hour I have not been
As others were; I have not seen
As others saw; I could not bring
My passions from a common spring.”

Look forward to our upcomming theme shows, and you can always request songs via our facebook page or text on 045 STUDENT and we’ll play them when we go back to regular programming.

Keep it Metal!
